Former ARIZONA attorney general GRANT WOODS filed a federal complaint seeking to stop CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KFYI/PHOENIX host J.D. HAYWORTH from using the airwaves to promote a potential primary race against ARIZONA Sen. JOHN MCCAIN. AZCENTRAL.COM reports the complaint "claims HAYWORTH, a former Republican congressman, cannot use his radio show to further his latest political aspirations. WOODS estimates CLEAR CHANNEL COMMUNICATIONS, which broadcasts HAYWORTH's program, is effectively providing air time to HAYWORTH that would cost $540,000 each week to rebut in radio ads."
"You can't use the public airwaves . . . to explore your candidacy for public office ad nauseam, and I stress the nausea," said WOODS, at one time MCCAIN's chief of staff.
HAYWORTH replied via his TWITTER account. "Paging Mr GRANT WOODS ... you left your brain in the lobby! WOODS tries to gag a non-declared non-candidate citizen - ME! 1st Amendment? BAH!"
