iPhone Apps Developers Striking Gold

Developers of applications being sold at APPLE's App Store are starting to make some decent, if not outright serious coin through their efforts. While not all of the over 100,0000 apps are financially successful, the really profitable ones have been raking in six figures.
According to YAHOO.COM, iPHONE app developer TAPULOUS has make "over $12 million" -- $1 million a month --from over 17 million users who bought applications such as Tap Tap Revenge (the first gaming franchise on the iPHONE), Collage, and the music-based WEEZER. Other successful developers include GOGII, whose TextPlus has been downloaded more than three million times.
To be sure, not all developers are making the big bucks. "Based on the metrics we've seen, it's safe to say our TextPlus app has achieved an exceptionally high degree of success compared with other apps," GOGII CEO SCOTT LAHMAN said. "Consider the fact that only the top five percent of apps in the APPLE App Store reach 100,000 unique monthly visitors."
Yet analysts admit that there's not enough information to determine just how many developers are making a decent living at this. "It's hard to say these are typical results, but [they] show what's possible when creative minds tap into the power of direct distribution to the end user," INTERPRET analyst MICHAEL GARTENBERG told YAHOO. "Despite much criticism about APPLE's approval process, this shows exactly how APPLE's model has been well received by developers and why developers support the platform."
