Construction magnate ANTONIO "TONY" ACCURSO is suing the CBC/RADIO-CANADA and two of its journalists for libel over the networks' DECEMBER 31st report claiming he attended the funeral home for the wake of the son of a mob "godfather."
The MONTREAL GAZETTE reports that ACCURSO says he was out of the country when the funeral for NICK RIZZUTO, son of imprisoned alleged mob boss VITO RIZZUTO, took place. ACCURSO is asking for C$3.5 million in damages from the networks and reporters KAI NAGATA and YVAN COTE, alleging that the reports falsely imputed a connection between himself and organized crime.
ACCURSO filed another libel suit against RADIO-CANADA and reporter ALAIN GRAVEL last OCTOBER over another report linking him to a union leader.
