WMAC's Krok Pushes For Surveillance Outside Housing Complex

CUMULUS Talk WMAC-A/MACON morning host CHRIS KROK is asking listeners for donations to add surveillance to an area of downtown where residents of a government-run housing complex complain of drug dealers, panhandlers and drunks hanging out on benches in front of the building.
Management of THE DEMPSEY asked the Mayor to remove the benches, and the benches were taken out, but the City Council voted to bring the benches back, asserting that the elderly residents need the benches to sit and wait for rides, despite the existence of benches and chairs immediately inside the building's front door.
KROK vowed on his show TODAY to chronicle the moves of "every drug dealer, panhandler, drunk and public urinator who sits at those benches," enlisting listeners to take pictures and a local business to mount a webcam in front of the store pointed at the benches, with the results posted on KROK's website. The first day's solicitaion netted a digital camera, $50, a listener to cover weekend surveillance and the business allowing the webcam.
