On JANUARY 7th, ALL ACCESS reported that Hot AC WOMX (MIX105.1)/ORLANDO had made several staff changes, including the departure of zillion-year MIX morning co-host ERICA LEE (NET NEWS 1/7). Now, THE ORLANDO SENTINAL reports there might be more than just a lineup change to LEE's exit, writing "sources close to the situation say LEE lost her job two days after refusing to read an on-air endorsement for a company she didn't feel comfortable touting. Insiders say this wasn't the first time LEE's moral qualms about backing a potential advertiser had caused consternation for station managers and executives with CBS/ORLANDO."
"ERICA always wanted to have her credibility," said one insider. "She didn't want to be viewed as a fraud. She felt like she would be deceiving the listeners." Some of the people interviewed for SCOTT MAXWELL's SENTINAL column asked not to be identified because of their relationship with CBS. "Executives with CBS deny that LEE's refusal to endorse certain products had anything to do with her ouster, saying that the timing of her termination on the heels of her refusal was simply 'a coincidence.'"
"We never force our talent to do endorsements," said SVP/Market Mgr. DON HOWE.
MAXWELL quotes sources as saying LEE refused to endorse BRIGHT HOUSE NETWORKS. LEE reportedly had commented on previous occasions about the company -- specifically "for not carrying sports programs that locals craved. LEE refused to read the BRIGHT HOUSE plug on JANUARY 5th."
