Report: Docs Show Friendship Between Harvey, Hoover

Documents obtained by the WASHINGTON POST from the FBI show a long-standing friendship between former FBI Director J. EDGAR HOOVER and the late PAUL HARVEY, including HARVEY offering tips on possible Communists at a TEXAS Air Force base in 1956 and submitting radio scripts in advance for the agency's comment and approval.
HARVEY came to the FBI's attention for a 1951 incident in which he tried to show a lack of security at the ARGONNE NATIONAL LABORATORY near CHICAGO by scaling a barbed-wire fence, but got caught instead; he then forged a friendship with HOOVER that lasted until HOOVER's death in 1972.
The POST says that the longtime ABC RADIO NETWORKS newsman and commentator "often submit(ed) advance copies of his radio script for comment and approval. HARVEY wrote HOOVER and his deputies regularly. HOOVER, in turn, helped HARVEY with research, suggested changes in scripts and showered the broadcaster with effusive praise."
