A digital music first -- as the "Hope for HAITI Now" album has debuted at #1 on the BILLBOARD 200 chart, reports THE ASSOCIATED PRESS. This is the first "digital-only" album to top the charts.
NIELSEN SOUNDSCAN reports that the compilation CD, featuring preformances from MADONNA, BEYONCE, U2, WYCLEF JEAN and others, sold 171,000 units over the weekend.
ALL ACCESS reported TUESDAY (NET NEWS 1/26) that more than 83 million people tuned in FRIDAY night for at least a portion of the HOPE FOR HAITI NOW telethon. The fundraiser had an average audience of more than 24 million viewers and pulled in at least $61 million in pledges from the general public.
Event organizers have since updated the amount raised to $66 million.
