Condolences to family and friends of former NFL star player-turned-broadcaster TOM BROOKSHIER, who died FRIDAY of cancer at LANKENAU HOSPITAL in WYNNEWOOD, PA at 78.
BROOKSHIER played defensive back for the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES, an all-Pro in the club's 1960 championship season, before a broken leg in 1961 ended his playing career and sent him to the broadcast booth, first with JACK WHITAKER at then-CBS O&O WCAU-TV/PHILADELPHIA and later teamed with PAT SUMMERALL on CBS-TV as the network's longtime lead NFL broadcast team.
In 1989, BROOKSHIER became morning host at WIP-A/PHILADELPHIA when it flipped to all-Sports, first solo and then teamed with former PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER sportswriter ANGELO CATALDI (as "BROOKIE AND THE ROOKIE") before leaving the station (CATALDI remains the station's morning host today). In recent years, BROOKSHIER had worked as a real estate consultant.
