The FCC has approved CBS RADIO's amended application to place Talk-News KFWB-A/LOS ANGELES into a trust for operation and/or eventual sale. The move was occasioned by CBS owning one too many stations in the LOS ANGELES market after the acquisition of a second television station, independent KCAL-TV, in 2002.
The original application was filed in NOVEMBER 2002 to place the station's license in the KFWB LICENSE TRUST, headed by BILL CLARK as trustee. An amendment filed last week changes the trustee from CLARK as an individual to CLARK RADIO LLC, wholly owned by CLARK. Station assets other than the license are being placed in the KFWB ASSET TRUST, also administered by CLARK.
The move follows complaints by crosstown MOUNT WILSON FM BROADCASTERS Adult Standards KGIL-A and Country KKGO (GO COUNTRY 105.1) owner SAUL LEVINE that CBS is violating the ownership cap by not selling off one station and continuing to operate and sell ads for KFWB.
