The Foundation of AMERICAN WOMEN IN RADIO & TELEVISION proudly announces that FORD MOTOR COMPANY FUND is continuing its support of EMPOWERING AMERICA, a public service campaign that profiles inspiring women who have pioneered in fields such as science, social reform, public service, sports, journalism, music and aviation. This AWRT-FORD program provides innovative learning tools and educational collateral materials to underprivileged middle schools across the country.
Among the women to be featured in the 2010 booklets are actress/choreographer DEBBIE ALLEN, Judge ROSEMARY BARKETT, Postmaster MARY KATHERINE GODDARD, Public Health Physician Dr. PATRICIA NEZ HENDERSON, Physician and Astronaut MAE JEMISON, Journalist SOLEDAD O'BRIEN and Secretary of Labor HILDA SOLIS.
"Young women in middle school are at an impressionable time in their lives. It is extremely important for this generation to know the stories of strong, successful women to help motivate and inspire them," FORD MOTOR COMPANY FUND and Community Services Pres. JIM VELLA said. "We are proud to work with AWRT on the Empowering America program to share these stories."
