Wyclef Jean To Be Honored By NAACP

GRAMMY Award-winning musician, songwriter, and producer WYCLEF JEAN, a native of HAITI, will be honored with the VANGUARD AWARD at the 41st NAACP IMAGE AWARDS. The ceremony will be broadcast live from the SHRINE AUDITORIUM in LOS ANGELES on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26th on FOX television.
JEAN, a founding member of the FUGEES, went on to become a prolific solo artist and producer. In 2005 he founded YELE HAITI, a grassroots movement inspiring change in HAITI through programs that included education, sports, the arts and environment and dedicated to providing aid and assistance to the impoverished nation. Following the devastating earthquake and aftershocks in JANUARY, all ot the organization's programs now focus on the relief and reconstruction of the island nation.
The VANGUARD AWARD is annually presented to a person whose work increased understanding and awareness of racial and social issues. Previous winners include TYLER PERRY, ARETHA FRANKLIN, RUSSELL SIMMONS, PRINCE, and directors STANLEY KRAMER and STEVEN SPIELBERG.
