SOVEREIGN COMMUNICATIONS has reached a deal with NORTH STAR BROADCASTING to purchase its 11 stations in MICHIGAN's Upper Peninsula, which will give it a total of seven radio stations in the EASTERN UPPER PENINSULA, plus five stations in MARQUETTE and three in IRON MOUNTAIN.
"We couldn't be more excited about this purchase," Pres./CEO BILL GLEICH stated in a press release. "Having these additional stations will allow us to serve the community as well as our advertisers and listeners in even greater ways."
GLEICH, who began his radio career at WSOO at the age of 15 before purchasing his first station six years ago, will now have over 50 employees under his command. "I look forward to a smooth transition as we bring the NORTHERN STAR stations into the SOVEREIGN COMMUNICATIONS family," he told the EVENING STAR. "We are the only locally-owned media in this area ... Radio is a local business with local information and local talent."
