CENLA BROADCASTING Talk KSYL-A/ALEXANDRIA, LA 7:30 to 8a "TALKBACK" co-host STEVE COCO has exited the station, and he told the ALEXANDRIA TOWN TALK that his dismissal was related to complaints by ALEXANDRIA Mayor JACQUES ROY.
"The mayor called the station just before 8 o'clock (on TUESDAY)," COCO, who co-hosted the show with BOB MADISON. told the paper. "A few minutes later he showed up at the station and had a closed-door meeting with TAYLOR THOMPSON, the co-owner. I drove to the supermarket and got a phone call from TAYLOR THOMPSON. He said, 'We're letting you go. We had too many complaints.' I said, 'You're letting me go because the mayor complained again?'"
ROY said he did meet with management to request equal time but that COCO is "deluded. I had nothing to do with his firing because I have no right over his employment. I did not ask for him to be fired, ever," and called the station after COCO's firing to "strongly suggest" that COCO not lose his job.
