Bubba Vs. Awesome Kong ... In Court
February 25, 2010 at 12:00 PM (PT)
Syndicated air personality BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE, whose longtime dalliance with pro wrestling that continues to this day, is being sued by TNA female pro wrestler, KIA STEVENS (a.k.a AWESOME KONG), for making a racist and threatening phone call to her in the middle of the night. In a statement, BUBBA denied ever calling her, let alone the verbal abuse.
The spat between the two goes back days after the earthquake in HAITI,when BUBBA disparaged the fundraising efforts. According to several media sources, KING, who's from HAITI, approached BUBBA, who also works as a TNA backstage reporter, after a Jan. 18th wrestling match and "sucker-punched" him in the face several times, yelling "This is for Haiti!" She reportedly was suspended for two days after the incident because BUBBA had been hired.
Fast forward to a call Kong claims to have received from a blocked number; she asserted the caller was BUBBA, who according to COURTHOUSENEWS.COM, threatened to "'sucker punch' her until she stopped breathing," threatening her and using racist and profane terminology. Kong filed suit when AT&T refused to identity the caller.
BUBBA quickly issued the following statement:
This morning I was made aware of allegations made in a petition for full bill of discovery by MS. KIA STEVENS, a professional wrestler with TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION WRESTLING. The allegations in this petition are 100% false. To be clear; everything contained in this petition is not true. Ms. STEVENS attributing outrageous racist statements and physical threats to me is disgusting.
We can prove without any doubt the allegations made in this petition are false. First Ms. STEVENS claims that she was called on the air, at 5:08a on FEBRUARY 10th, we are not even on the air until 6a Eastern time. We have phone records and eyewitnesses that account for my every movement that day from 4:50 AM forward. No call was made to Ms. STEVENS at all.
We will be pursuing all legal remedies available to us in the State of FLORIDA to fight these deliberately malicious allegations.
