AMERICAN WOMEN IN RADIO AND TELEVISION (AWRT) has voted to change its name to ALLIANCE FOR WOMEN IN MEDIA. The change was announced by 2010 board chair SYLVIA STROBEL at SATURDAY's annual business meeting.
“Although a difficult decision to make, our membership agreed that the organization’s name must reflect the industry in which it serves as a leader for the advancement of all women,” said STROBEL.
In addition, the organization unveiled its officers for 2010, with CBS RADIO's VALERIE BLACKBURN as Vice Chair, NEXSTAR's ELIZABETH HAMMOND as Treasurer, and DISCOVERY CHANNEL's KRISTEN WELCH as Treasurer-Elect.
The organization also announced its 2010 Board of Directors. Directors at Large will include the NCTA's CHRISTINA ANDERSON; consultant MARY BENNETT (Immediate Past Chair); LOI INTERNATIONAL's LAUREN DARR; WTTA (MY TV TAMPA BAY)/TAMPA's BILL DIAZ; CLEAR CHANNEL's LISA DOLLINGER; NABEF's MICHELLE DUKE; VCI SOLUTIONS' SARAH FOSS; CAMPBELL MITHUN/COMPASS POINT MEDIA's CAROL GROTHEM; HARPO RADIO's CORNY KOEHL; attorney CHRISTINE MCLAUGHLIN; LOCAL FOCUS RADIO's KAY OLIN; KATZ MEDIA GROUP's BONNIE PRESS; GREATER MEDIA's HEIDI RAPHAEL; CNN's CAROLYN STIDHAM; and GOOGLE's JENNIFER ZEIDMAN BLOCH.
