CALIFORNIA State Senator ROY ASHBURN's headline-making declaration of his homosexuality in the wake of a DUI arrest while leaving a SACRAMENTO gay bar came on AMERICAN GENERAL MEDIA Talk KERN-A/BAKERSFIELD. ASHBURN, known for his opposition to gay rights legislation, appeared on INGA BARKS' show MONDAY (3/8) for his first interview following the arrest and claimed that his past votes were a reflection of his constituents' wishes.
"I am gay," ASHBURN told BARKS. "Those are the words that have been so difficult for me for so long. But I am gay.... Through my own actions, I made my personal life public."
ASHBURN, whose term expires this year, will be arraigned next month on two misdemeanor DUI counts.
