Sen. Bond Asks FCC To Probe KFUO Sale

Add Sen. KIT BOND (R-MO) to the list of politicians asking for a Congressional inquiry into the sale of Classical KFUO/ST. LOUIS by the LUTHERAN CHURCH-MISSOURI SYNOD to religious operator GATEWAY CREATIVE BROADCASTING. The ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH's SARAH BRYAN MILLER reports that the BOND told the MUSICIANS' COUNCIL of the ST. LOUIS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA that he has "asked the FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION to initiate a Congressional inquiry into this matter."
BOND joins Reps. JOHN SHIMKUS (R-IL) and LACY CLAY (D-MO) in calling for a Congressional probe into the controversial sale. The $18 million sale of KFUO has been met with claims by opponents that the church, through OMAHA politician/lawyer, board member and spokesman KERMIT BRASHEAR, resisted plans to sell the station to either another Lutheran organization or a citizens group dedicated to saving the station's Classical format.
