McCaskill Looking Into KFUO Sale
March 10, 2010 at 4:29 AM (PT)
Sen. CLAIRE MCCASKILL (D-MO) has joined the list of politicians inquiring into the sale of Classical KFUO/ST. LOUIS by the LUTHERAN CHURCH-MISSOURI SYNOD to religious operator GATEWAY CREATIVE BROADCASTING.
The ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH's SARAH BRYAN MILLER reports that MCCASKILL's Deputy Press Secretary LAURA MYRON said that the Senator's "legislative staff have been following the issue closely and have been in contact with the FCC regarding the sale. Our office is interested in and will be keeping a close eye out for the results of any inquiry into this situation."
Sen. KIT BOND (R-MO), Reps. JOHN SHIMKUS (R-IL) and LACY CLAY (D-MO) have previously voiced interest or opposition to the controversial sale. The $18 million sale of KFUO has been met with claims by opponents that the church, through OMAHA politician/lawyer, board member and spokesman KERMIT BRASHEAR, resisted plans to sell the station to either another Lutheran organization or a citizens group dedicated to saving the station's Classical format.
