March 22, 2010 at 4:42 AM (PT)
The LOCAL COMMUNITY RADIO ACT OF 2009 has moved from the Senate Commerce Committee to consideration by the whole Senate, placed on the Senate Legislative Calendar on MARCH 9th.
The bill, S.592, sponsored by Sen. MARIA CANTWELL (D-WA) with co-sponsors CHARLES SCHUMER (D-NY), DICK DURBIN (D-IL), RUSS FEINGOLD (D-WI), PAT LEAHY (D-VT), JEFF MERKLEY (D-OR), BERNIE SANDERS (I-VT) and JOHN MCCAIN (R-AZ), would change FM interference rules to enable the addition of more low power FMs.
The Senate version has some differences from the House version, including retention of third-adjacent channel protection in large, dense markets.
