The BBC will add 60 digital radio transmitters across the U.K. to increase DAB coverage to 90% of the population by the end of 2011. The present network of DAB transmitters reaches about 86% of the country; the additions are part of a plan released in 2008.
The expansion comes as the company and the public debate the network's proposal to drop two digital stations, Triple A BBC 6 MUSIC and THE ASIAN NETWORK, in favor of brand extension spin-off services for existing networks.
