FCC Drops Gender From Advertising Discrimination Order

The FCC has issued an erratum to its advertising nondiscrimination requirement that drops the inclusion of gender discrimination from the provision.
The Commission said that its "clear intent" was to ban racial discrimination in the form of "no Urban dictates" or "no Spanish dictates." Advertising is often targeted-based on gender for several product categories that are appropriate specifically for men or women.
The 2008 order remains silent as to how stations and agencies should implement its provisions.
