KPWT Stunting Yields To 'World Class Rock' X106.7
April 6, 2010 at 9:50 AM (PT)
Following a weekend of ticking clocks at former COX Talker KPWT/SAN ANTONIO (NET NEWS 4/1), the station has launched as "X106.7 World Class Rock -- Rock For The Rest Of Us" -- sort of tweaked Triple A format.
During the launch they announced the five $1,000 winners from the FACEBOOK contest.
COX/SAN ANTONIO Market Manager & VP/Programming VIRGIL THOMPSON will handle the programming, which features a run of 10,000 songs in a row, commercial-free. The station kicked off with TALKING HEADS "Take Me To The River" followed by ROLLING STONES "Waiting On A Friend." The rest of the hour went as follows:
LED ZEPPELIN "Immigrant Song"
PETE TOWNSHEND "Let My Love Open The Door"
ERIC CLAPTON "After Midnight" (live version)
TRAIN "Hey, Soul Sister"
PETER GABRIEL "Games Without Frontiers"
JANES ADDICTION "Been Caught Stealing"
PINK FLOYD "Another Brick In The Wall Pt 2"
"We will be slow on current songs and we most likely be playing songs that would be considered recurrent by the industry," said Thompson about the music. "It will be a component of the station for sure. We are calling it 'Adult Rock- -- yes, it has a Triple A feel perhaps but we will play some mainstream bands you don’t hear on similar stations, specifically Van Halen and Aerosmith, etc.
