Radio Informs, Helps With WV Mine Disaster

MSNBC.COM reports that "No response has been heard after rescuers banged on pipes in a WEST VIRGINIA coal mine where four miners are missing after a deadly blast, the state's governor said early WEDNESDAY. Gov. JOE MANCHIN told a briefing that rescue workers had finished drilling a first vent hole in an attempt to remove toxic gas from the UPPER BIG BRANCH MINE. They are trying to make a section of it safe enough for rescuers to search for the miners."
It's been two days since a blast killed 25 and left two hospitalized at the site of the worst underground disaster in the U.S. in more than a quarter-century.
WEST VIRGINIA RADIO AC WVAF (V100)/CHARLESTON, WV morning host STEVE BISHOP told ALL ACCESS, "V100 partners with the best local news department in town, [Sister News] WCHS RADIO 58, so it's being covered on newscasts at the top and bottom of the hour. We also have their News Director, JEFF JENKINS, on location at the mine site providing updates every hour. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of news to report due to delay in getting back in the mine to continue rescue efforts. They're drilling now to vent methane from the mine so the rescue may resume. The hope is that the four missing miners made it to a rescue chamber which would allow them four days of oxygen and food."
LM COMMUNICATIONS honcho CHARLIE KENDALL e-mailed ALL ACCESS to tell us "Here is an e-mail blast sent out last night by Rock WKLC (ROCK 105) and Hot AC WMXE (MIX 100.9)/CHARLESTON, WV. WKLC PD JAY NUNLEY is from a coal mining family in WV and he basically put this whole thing together YESTERDAY. The response has been overwhelming. JAY NUNLEY, WMXE PD ALAN HOOVER and the whole cluster staff are on-site. These guys make me proud to be in this business and having them on the LM COMMUNICATIONS team is an honor."
The e-blast read:
"ROCK 105 will be at KMART in ST. ALBANS from 10a to 6p TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY) taking your donations for the families of the BIG BRANCH MINE disaster. If you can't make it by KMART, we've setup a relief fund at 5th 3rd BANK, you can donate to the ROCK 105 BIG BRANCH MINE relief fund at any area 5th 3rd location, or you can donate safely & securely using PAYPAL or a credit card directly from your PC or mobile phone!"
