Willie Nelson And Rep. Frank Niceley Battle Over Bill In Congress

According to the TENNESSEAN, TENNESSEE State Representative FRANK NICELEY (R-KNOXVILLE) and Country artist WILLIE NELSON are going head to head on a bill that’s currently in CONGRESS, called the PREVENTION OF EQUINE CRUELTY ACT. The bill would outlaw horse slaughter in the state of TENNESSEE and prohibit U.S. horses from being taken outside the country to be killed for meat.
NICELEY spoke out against NELSON for his opposition to killing and processing horses for meat, saying it’s inhumane. NELSON fired back at NICELY, telling the TENNESSEAN, “He wants folks to believe it is more humane to allow buyers to travel around our great country purchasing healthy, wanted horses, then haul them to TENNESSEE to be slaughtered for human consumption.”
NICELEY is sponsoring legislation in TENNESSEE to encourage horse-processing operations in the state and establish regulations for them. A HOUSE subcommittee is scheduled to meet about the bill, and NELSON’s daughter AMY and granddaughter RAELYN say they will attend the meeting.
