TRIBUNE Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO host JOHN WILLIAMS is returning to CBS RADIO Talk WCCO-A/MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL to host 1-3p CT weekdays, beginning APRIL 13th. WILLIAMS, who is taking over the slot formerly occupied by DON SHELBY, will also continue to host 9a-1p at WGN.
Also at WGN, afternoon host STEVE COCHRAN and 1-4p host GARRY MEIER will swap slots, with MEIER taking over 3-7p and COCHRAN hosting 1-3p.
On rejoining WCCO, WILLIAMS said, "I spent four fantastic years on air at WCCO Radio before going to CHICAGO. Both stations have a long history, are hugely successful and are pillars in their respective communities. I now get the best of both worlds."
"JOHN is a perfect complement to our afternoon programming line up with his show from 1-3p and MICHELLE TAFOYA from 3-6 p," said WCCO PD WENDY PAULSON. "He has stayed connected to the TWIN CITIES, he understands our community, he's smart, articulate and is entrenched in the MIDWEST lifestyle."
On the MEIER-COCHRAN move, WGN PD KEVIN METHENY said, "Response to GARRY's early-afternoon show has been great, and we want more people to know he's on WGN Radio. This schedule adjustment gets GARRY more starts in front of more listeners, often following the powerful audience magnet of the CHICAGO CUBS."
MEIER said, "When management approached me and said they were going to make some changes I thought, 'Here we go, I should not have dropped out of pharmacy school.' But the news turned out to be good. I'm looking forward to my sophomore year at the 'G' and I intend to enjoy it as much as I did my sophomore year in high school. I don't know why sophomoric gets such a bad rap."
