FORUM COMMUNICATIONS Talk WDAY-A/FARGO has picked up the local affiliation for UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA sports in a three year deal to air all football and men's hockey games, plus other sports on a "game of the week" basis. The deal fills the void left when NORTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY sports moved to crosstown RADIO FARGO-MOORHEAD Talk KFGO-A and Sports KVOX-A (740 THE FAN)/FARGO, which had previously been the UND affiliate for FARGO-MOORHEAD.
"We are excited about expanding our partnership with FORUM COMMUNICATIONS and we know that WDAY-AM will be a tremendous home for FIGHTING SIOUX radio broadcasts," said UND Director of Athletics BRIAN FAISON. "The integration between UND athletics and all of the assets of FORUM COMMUNICATIONS across the state of NORTH DAKOTA makes this a fantastic situation for all FIGHTING SIOUX fans."
"We are extremely proud to be the radio home for FIGHTING SIOUX sports in FARGO-MOORHEAD," WDAY GM MARK PRATHER said. "This partnership makes sense for FORUM COMMUNICATIONS. It is a tremendous opportunity to link our relationship across all media encompassed by our company, and our television ratings prove what a great following FIGHTING SIOUX Athletics has in the FARGO-MOORHEAD area.
"SIOUX SPORTS EXTRA's television broadcast is the most viewed long-format and locally produced sports program, averaging nearly 20,000 weekly viewers and about half of those viewers are watching on WDAY-TV6. The tremendous success of our TV broadcast will now be joined by WDAY AM-970 broadcasting UND sports to thousands of UND faithful in the FARGO-MOORHEAD area and beyond."
Football play-by-play voice DAN HAMMER (who continues as KFGO Sports Director and noon-1p weekday host at KVOX), hockey broadcaster TIM HENNESSEY, and basketball announcer PAUL RALSTON will continue calling the action.
