BILLBOARD announced YESTERDAY (4/13) that MCA/NASHVILLE star GEORGE STRAIT has accomplished something that no other artist in the history of the BILLBOARD charts has, 30 years of consecutive Top-10 hits. His current single, “I Gotta Get To You,” is at #9 on BILLBOARD’s Country radio airplay list this week, which gives STRAIT a total of 82 Top-10 hits and marks 2010 as the 30-year milestone. STRAIT landed his first top 10 in 1981 with his first charting single, "Unwound."
STRAIT said: “It just continues to be one heck of a ride that I'm enjoying every minute of. Time does fly when you’re having fun. Thanks to all of my fans for their support. Long live Country music!”
UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP NASHVILLE Chairman LUKE LEWIS said: "It is truly a privilege for all of us at UNIVERSAL to be associated with GEORGE STRAIT. He has recorded music for MCA RECORDS his entire career and we are very proud to be part of this achievement."
With a career spanning more than 30 years, STRAIT has the most #1 singles of any artist in history, including ELVIS. He has 57 to date inclusive of all charts.
