FIRST DALLAS MEDIA Religion KCBI/DALLAS parent FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF DALLAS has apologized for an ethnic slur used in a broadcast by the interim President of CRISWELL COLLEGE. The DALLAS MORNING NEWS reports that Dr. LAMAR COOPER used the term "wetbacks" in a discussion of ARIZONA's immigration law on APRIL 25th. The conversation aired as part of a broadcast preceding a SUNDAY School class he was teaching.
"There was an offhanded comment that was made by the teacher that was derogatory and unfortunate," said spokesman JOHN GRABLE. "It was before he started his lesson. It was not part of the lesson."
In a written statement, CRISWELL Chairman MICHAEL DEAHL said that COOPER "is very remorseful about the offhand and hurtful comment he made. I have known and worked with Dr. COOPER at the College for many years and he is not a racist."
