WAMC, INC. noncommercial WAMC/ALBANY, NY has suspended environmental commentator and NEW YORK State Wildlife Pathologist WARD STONE after allegations in the ALBANY TIMES UNION that STONE used a state car for personal purposes without authorization, and a litany of other alleged abuses of state recources. The paper reported in SUNDAY's editions that STONE, the host of "IN OUR BACKYARD," had allegedly mistreated staff, lived at his Department of Environmental Protection office, brought guns to work, used state staffers for his WAMC volunteer work and his job as instructor at ST. ROSE COLLEGE and SUNY-COBLESKILL.
In a release, the station said, "WAMC believes in the concept that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. We are grateful to WARD STONE for his generous volunteer contribution to WAMC's 'IN OUR BACKYARD' program and for his tireless work for the state. We hope these allegations prove to be false. Nevertheless, we believe it is prudent to suspend production of the program until these charges are resolved."
