Radio has reason to believe auto sales will justify more ad spending coming its way, even as GENERAL MOTORS, FORD and TOYOTA's APRIL U.S. sales increases missed analysts estimates. THE NEW YORK POST reports "only CHRYSLER among the six largest automakers exceeded projections, as the company posted a 25% monthly gain that was its biggest since JULY 2005. GM yesterday reported a 6.4% percent increase from a year earlier, FORD sales rose 25% and TOYOTA's were up 24%.
Last week, MEDIA MONITORS showed HONDA at #7 and FORD LINCOLN MERCURY at #8, on a list of the top 10 radio advertisers (NET NEWS 4/26).
Other automakers also increased sales, with NISSAN up 35% and HYUNDAI up 30%.
