CURTIS MEDIA GROUP/RALEIGH has launched a new Classic Country station, WQDR-A (COUNTRY LEGENDS 570AM), sister to Country WQDR-F. The station, previously Talk WDOX-A, is being consulted by veteran programmer RUSTY WALKER and will play hits from Classic Country artists like WAYLON JENNINGS, ALABAMA, DOLLY PARTON, PATSY CLINE, WILLIE NELSON and more.
Aside from being heard on 570AM, the station can also be streamed online at www.countrylegends570.com. The station will soon launch a free mobile application from the iPHONE app store.
CURTIS MEDIA President/COO PHIL ZACHARY said: “It’s a brand new radio station for listeners who loved Country music before Country went HOLLYWOOD. If you’ve wondered where all those HALL OF FAME artists have gone, they’re right back where they belong…on the radio. The launch of COUNTRY LEGENDS 570 will be our first for a station across multiple deliverable channels. We know our listeners want the best, digital audio quality available, and we’re keenly aware they’ll want to take COUNTRY LEGENDS 570 with them wherever and whenever they travel.”
The staff remains unchanged following the format flip, under the direction of GM RICK HEILMANN and OM/PD MICHAEL DAVIS. The station did not previously have an on-air staff in-house.
