Condolences to family and friends of former CFAX-A/VICTORIA, BC owner CLARE COPELAND, who died FRIDAY in VICTORIA after a short illness at 85, according to the VICTORIA TIMES COLONIST.
COPELAND and CHARLIE SMITH bought CFAX in 1963, moving the station from 810 AM as a daytimer to full-time status on 1070 AM. The station was sold to MEL COOPER in 1974, and COPELAND later launched the COPELAND COMMUNICATIONS ad agency in VICTORIA and was active in politics.
