CORUS shut down Oldies CINW-A (AM940 MONTREAL'S GREATEST HITS) and French News CINF-A (INFO690)/MONTREAL on JANUARY 29th, and now the company's METROMEDIA CMR BROADCASTING INC. has gone through the formality of having the CRTC officially revoke the licenses of the two stations. At the time of the shutdown, CORUS said that the stations were "not viable."
Also at the CRTC, RADIO PORT-CARTIER INC.'s application to increase the power of its French Top 40 CIPC (LA RADIOACTIVE)/PORT-CARTIER, QC has been denied. The licensee applied to boose average ERP from 18,766 watts to 41,687 watts (maximum ERP from 45,016 to 100,000 watts), but the CRTC denied the increase based on failure to comply with the portion of its license authorization regarding directing 60% of its Canadian content development contribution payments to MUSICACTION in 2008 and for underpaying for 2009.
MACEACHERN BROADCASTING LTD. has applied for a power increase from 19,000 to 40,000 watts at Hot AC CIGO (101.5 THE HAWK)/PORT HAWKESBURY, NS, and NORTHWOODS BROADCASTING LTD. has requested a change for its CKDR-6-AM/ATIKOKAN, ON transmitter to switch from rebroadcasting AC CKDR-2-FM/SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON (rebroadcasting CKDR/DRYDEN, ON) to rebroadcasting AC CFOB (B93)/FORT FRANCES, ON.
