ESPN is getting out of the bar and restaurant business with the closing of all but two of its ESPN ZONE locations effective JUNE 16th, reports the LOS ANGELES TIMES. The venues were frequent sites for radio broadcasts for ESPN RADIO and its local stations.
The sites to remain open are the DOWNTOWN DISNEY ESPN ZONE at DISNEYLAND in ANAHEIM and the LOS ANGELES restaurant, which is located at the L.A. LIVE complex opposite STAPLES CENTER and is operated under license by a third party. Closing are locations in NEW YORK's TIME SQUARE, CHICAGO, WASHINGTON, BALTIMORE's INNER HARBOR, and LAS VEGAS (at the NEW YORK, NEW YORK hotel-casino).
"A decision like this is never easy. The ESPN Zones have served as a terrific experience for fans across the country, but remain a long-term business challenge," said ESPN SVP RICH ALESSANDRI.
