SUNDAY's CITADEL Talk WABC-A/NEW YORK special with HUFFINGTON POST Founder and Editor ARIANNA HUFFINGTON, conservative pundit and former BUSH administration official MARY MATALIN, and NEW YORK OBSERVER columnist and former NEW YORK CITY Public Advocate MARK GREEN was more than just a one-off show: "BOTH SIDES NOW" will launch in national syndication this SATURDAY (6/26).
The one-hour weekly show will be distributed by MEDIA MANAGEMENT GROUP and is being consulted by GABE HOBBS, who said, "This is a show that will literally work on almost any form of talk station and is truly unique. This approach is long overdue in our business as it really is refreshing to hear a smart entertaining talk show that isn't screaming at you or someone else."
"We strongly believe that there's a desire for a program that highlights two engaging and politically-astute women debating and discussing a range of topics," said GREEN, who serves as moderator between the left-leaning HUFFINGTON and right-leaning MATALIN. "Then, instead of partisan monologues telling listeners what to think, they can decide for themselves. As for me, I'm just the Y-man in a X chromosome program."
HUFFINGTON said, "MARY and I have had passionate exchanges on Obama, the economy and choice, among others. But because it's time for the media to get beyond its tired habit of looking at every issue in terms only of 'right vs left,' it's been great to find us agreeing on some important topics -- from the response to the Gulf spill to the travails and joys of parenting teenage daughters."
MATALIN added, "ARIANNA and I go back to when she was a conservative and I was a moderate. We have long enjoyed kvetching about the inside, outside, all sides of politics, policy and culture. We can take it from the Beltway to the Bayou to the Big Apple and beyond sound-bites."
The show will launch on 50 stations and will also be offered as a podcast, through iTUNES, and as an "audio blog" at the HUFFINGTON POST on MONDAYS.
