Independent Examiner Asks For More Time To Review Tribune Case

TRIBUNE CO.'s bankruptcy case continues to hit bumps in the road, with the latest detour being a request by the independent examiner for a 15 day extension of time to investigate some creditors' claims of fraud in SAM ZELL's takeover of the company. Examiner KENNETH KLEE moved TODAY for more time, citing the "enormity" of the record in the case; the original deadline was JULY 12th, and KLEE's request is for an extention to JULY 27th.
A grant of KLEE's motion might delay the hearings on confirming TRIBUNE's reorganization plan, presently set to start AUGUST 16th. TRIBUNE is not opposing KLEE's motion.
