The prospective owner of WINGS COMMUNICATIONS brokered Talk WELE-A/DAYTONA BEACH has reached a deal to resolve his liability in lawsuits by listeners over complaints that the station's "PREMIER TRAVEL SHOW" sold travel package coupons, but did not deliver the vacations, reports the DAYTONA BEACH NEWS-JOURNAL.
An attorney for BIG JOHN, a host on the station whose GOLIATH RADIO LLC is buying WELE from embattled owner and host DOUG WILHITE, told the paper that a deal was reached between his client and the six plaintiffs and a notice of settlement was filed with the court on JUNE 9th, but the plaintiffs have filed a motion for reconsideration, saying that the settlement notice mistakenly included all 13 defendants rather than just BIG JOHN. Other defendants include WINGS COMMUNICATIONS, WILHITE, SHERRY WILHITE, BECKY WILHITE, KRISTEN WILHITE COBB, CASSIE WILHITE SIMON, TRISHA LYNN WILHITE WEATHERFORD, KENNETH WEATHERFORD, COREY COBB, MICHAEL J. JOHNSON, F. DOUGLAS WILHITE III, and JOHN WILHITE.
The "PREMIER TRAVEL SHOW" was hosted by WILHITE, who said at the time of the complaints that the station was running out of money and the station might be going off the air, but shortly thereafter said that he would make good on the vacation packages and returned the station to the air. WILHITE has since battled child abuse and sex charges, reaching a plea deal on charges of child abuse and neglect in APRIL that included two years of house arrest and 13 years of probation plus a bar against unsupervised contact with individuals under 18 and yearly lie detector tests.
