The FCC chose HAMPTONS COMMUNITY RADIO CORPORATION as the tentative selectee for a new full-power radio station based in WESTHAMPTON, NY on 89.1 mhz. The application was filed in 2007, and after comparing competing applications from other groups for the radio channel the FCC chose HCRC to build the station. A thirty-day comment period follows, and HCRC can receive authorization to begin construction in OCTOBER. Although it will be licensed to WESTHAMPTON, the signal will reach 25 miles in all directions from WESTHAMPTON, including RIVERHEAD.
HCRC Pres. BARBARA BARRI said, "the increase in reach will enable us to reach well over 150,000 listeners, and provide a second frequency for listeners in SOUTHAMPTON and Westward".
HCRC currently operates WPKM/MONTAUK, and has an FCC license for 90.7 in EAST HAMPTON (not yet built). The 88.7 signal is branded as WEER....EAST END RADIO...and has begun an expansion of its program schedule to include locally-produced programs.
The station is largely staffed by volunteers and relies on listener memberships and other financial support. To help, reach out to BARBARA BARRI at (631) 604-0100.
