The Media Elite Gather In Sun Valley

Most of the movers and shakers in media are attending the yearly get-together in IDAHO's SUN VALLEY, and word is beginning to leak out about the topics of discussion. THE NEW YORK POST reports SONY CORP. "is in SUN VALLEY to solidify its partnerships and perhaps make some more. While sources say it's unlikely that CEO HOWARD STRINGER will attend this year, his lieutenants are in the quaint IDAHO locale to potentially broaden the company's collaborations with big-leaguers like GOOGLE and cement the company's position in the 3D world."
An Internet-connected TV is set for this fall for SONY with partner GOOGLE. The two are also reportedly discussing mutual plans for the ANDROID mobile platform.
Other music-related companies are also making news, with VIVENDI -- set to spin off NBC UNIVERSAL -- examining where it might spend its cash. One option for the owners of UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP "is to buy VODAFONE's 44% stake in FRENCH phone company, SFR, in order to own the whole thing. The other is to buy LAGARDERE's piece of FRANCE's pay-TV giant, CANAL PLUS.
UMG's LUCIAN GRANGE is attending for the first time as CEO of the company. He replaced DOUG MORRIS, who stepped down last month.
