The FCC has issued its annual Assessment and Collection of Regulatory Fees for Fiscal Year 2010, collecting $335,794,000 in regulatory fees.
The Commission rejected a proposal by station owner BOB BITTNER that AM and FM fees be based on revenue or a "fee per person" based on population in a station's city grade contour; the FCC said that the proposals would be "burdensome" for the Commission and licensees. Also rejected for now was a "spectrum occupancy" proposal by RADIOTECHNIQUES ENGINEERING's EDWARD A. SCHOBER, although the Commission said, "We do not dismiss Mr. SCHOBER's points about the need to review the current AM fee structure based on class, and find that this fee structure should be reviewed further for future funding years."
