New Auto Sales Website Licenses With Two Broadcasters

A new online auto marketplace, SHOPTHELOTS.COM, will give broadcast media new fuel for their advertising engines. SHOPTHELOTS.COM reaches beyond the basic search functions of typical auto websites, as it gives dealers a chance to present their sales message and branding in the familiar newspaper style.
SHOPTHELOTS.COM already has a licensing agreement with VENTURA COUNTY’s GOLD COAST BROADCASTING LLC and SANTA BARBARA COUNTY’s RINCON BROADCASTING LLC. Through a strategic partnership, the two radio entities now have a direct relationship with auto dealers, the single largest revenue category for media, which, up to now, has been dominated by newsprint.
"One of the key-most points I find attractive about SHOPTHELOTS is that it not only helps us generate non-traditional revenue, it also helps us drive our traditional terrestrial broadcast revenues," GOLD COAST BROADCASTING EVP and RINCON BROADCASTING Dir./Sales CHIP EHRHARDT said. "Our stations will drive traffic to the site. Other web-based non-traditional revenue initiatives have focused on offering clients banners, tile ads, hyperlinks and other gimmicky things on our station sites, offering fractional value and revenue."
"When customers log onto SHOPTHELOTS.COM, they can be in a dealer’s entire facility, downloading a service coupon or a special accessory, seeing inventory and checking out daily sales promotions for more than 100 dealerships and brands on the Central CALIFORNIA Coast," INTERACTIVE AUTO ADS LLC Pres. KEITH JOHNSTON said. "With other auto web sites, when you're shopping for one brand, it’s common to see a competitive banner ad for another brand pop up. For the first time, it’s all about the dealership -- no pop-ups, banners or distractions."
