Small Earthquake Hits Washington D.C.
July 16, 2010 at 6:52 AM (PT)
It may not live up to SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA standards, but a 3.6 magnitude earthquake rattled the WASHINGTON, D.C. area early TODAY (7/16), with thousands of residents reporting that they felt the ground shake as they slept or were waking. The U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY said the quake was centered in MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD and struck at 5:04a.
Commented CITADEL/WASHINGTOM OM KENNY KING, "All three of our morning shows on MIX, THE EDGE and WMAL certainly had a surprise start to the day! D.C. is definitely rockin' 2010... blizzards in the WINTER, 100+ degrees in the SUMMER and now an earthquake... almost as nutty as the MEL GIBSON recordings! Well, almost..."
CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Hits WBIG (BIG 100.3) and AC WASH/WASHINGTON, D.C PD BILL CAHILL told ALL ACCESS, "I felt it at home as I live three miles from the epicenter, while it did wake me up it was merely a rumble. We're having fun with all day on WASH and BIG 100.3. WASH has been playing requests like 'All Shook Up' by ELVIS, 'I Feel The Earth Move' by CAROLE KING, 'Shake Your Body Down To The Ground' by THE JACKSONS. BIG has been playing requests for 'You Shook Me All Night Long' by AC/DC, 'Shake It Up' by the CARS, 'Shakin' by EDDIE MONEY. A handful of folks had a rough rattle, but most listeners just felt some vibration. It's certainly the center of discussion in the workplace today, and we're having fun with it."
VOA Executive Producer MARTIN SECREST shared, "I didn't feel anything (I never do now do I) but my coworker PHILIP ALEXIOU says it felt 'like a big truck rumbling through my neighborhood, and I looked out the window, but didn't see one. That's when I suspected we were having an earthquake.'"
