Condolences to family and friends of CONNECTICUT broadcaster HIPOLITO CUEVAS, who died recently after battling kidney and heart problems and acute diabetes, according to LA VOZ HISPANA DE CONNECTICUT.
CUEVAS, who was 44, battled the FCC for several years in his attempts to establish Spanish-language radio in NEW HAVEN, with the agency shutting his LA NUEVA RADIO MUSICALE 104.5 FM down in 2000 as a pirate station. He later established "SUPER MAX WEPA" as a Part 15 AM operation on 1700 AM, and launched WEPA-TV, an Internet and cable channel for NEW HAVEN, in 2008. He also hosted the stations' morning show.
