CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KFI-A/LOS ANGELES afternoon hosts JOHN KOBYLT and KEN CHIAMPOU's influence on the CALIFORNIA political process was highlighted in a LOS ANGELES TIMES article SUNDAY focusing on their recent attacks on Republican gubernatorial candidate MEG WHITMAN and her apparent contradictory positions on illegal immigration.
After WHITMAN, who ran for the Republican nomination on a platform of tough enforcement of immigration laws, ran Spanish-language billboards promoting her opposition to ARIZONA's SB 1070 and CALIFORNIA's Proposition 187 immigration laws, the hosts aired "broadsides" at WHITMAN, said the TIMES, describing how JOHN AND KEN "mocked her statements as 'garbage,' read aloud their correspondence with a campaign aide they labeled a 'weasel' and recounted old interviews to show her change in emphasis. They used the station's website to scream 'Stop the Pandering' and urge listeners to barrage WHITMAN's campaign with phone calls and her FACEBOOK page with criticisms."
WHITMAN's Democratic opponent, JERRY BROWN, appeared on JOHN AND KEN's show THURSDAY to voice his own position, which includes offering illegal immigrants a path towards citizenship, but WHITMAN, who has appeared on the show before, has yet to return to defend her positions on the issue. KOBYLT noted that WHITMAN "has enough money to run two simultaneous campaigns regarding immigration, one aimed at English-speaking voters and a second one aimed at Spanish-speaking voters," but advised her, "Don't get into a fight with two guys who have 25 hours to fill each week."
