NY Post: Google Music Getting Closer

A challenger to APPLE's iTUNES is coming faster than expected. THE NEW YORK POST reports GOOGLE's "ANDROID whiz, VP ANDY RUBIN, is said to be having accelerated talks with a music-industry group publishing firm in hopes of gaining digital publishing rights to as many songs as possible to enable the launch of a GOOGLE Music store."
The reports says RUBIN has had conversations with the HARRY FOX AGENCY -- and that indicates GOOGLE is ready to go "to the next level." The talks would focus on pricing, what rights are available and how the two business models might be established.
Some in the music industry feel APPLE received too sweet a deal when it launched iTUNES. A rival product from GOOGLE is hoped to force APPLE into a different pricing structure, and larger share of profits for the labels.
