The DIRTY DANCING soundtrack spent 18 weeks atop the BILLBOARD chart in the 1980s, and over 48 million copies have been sold to date. Now, the songwriters behind the album's hit songs are honoring the late PATRICK SWAYZE by releasing the original demos, with a portion of the proceeds going to fight Pancreatic Cancer, the disease that took SWAYZE's life last year.
FRANKE PREVITE, JOHN DE NICOLA and DON MARKOWITZ are releasing the digital-only four-song package DIRTY DANCING: THE ORIGINAL DEMOS on SEPTEMBER 8th. Included are two versions of the OSCAR and GOLDEN GLOBE-winning smash, “(I'VE HAD) THE TIME OF MY LIFE,” originally sung by PREVITE, noted frontman of ‘80s hit makers FRANKE & THE KNOCKOUTS (“SWEETHEART”), as a duet with RACHELE CAPPELLI. This is the actual recording that SWAYZE and JENNIFER GREY danced to when filming the famous grand finale dance scene in the movie.
Also included will be a remix of "(I'VE HAD) THE TIME OF MY LIFE" by its original producer MICHAEL LLOYD, the demo version of “HUNGRY EYES” written by PREVITE and DE NICOLA and sung by PREVITE, and "SOMEONE LIKE YOU," another PREVITE/DE NICOLA original written for BILL MEDLEY.
A generous portion of the proceeds of DIRTY DANCING: THE ORIGINAL DEMOS package will be donated to the PATRICK SWAYZE PANCREAS CANCER RESEARCH FUND at STANFORD CANCER CENTER. The fund was established by SWAYZE's widow LISA NIEMI SWAYZE at the medical institution where her husband was treated for the extent of his courageous battle.
“I feel this is the right thing to do and the right time to do it,” said PREVITE. “We salute and honor our friend, PATRICK SWAYZE, for his courage, generosity and talent.”
DIRTY DANCING: THE ORIGINAL DEMOS will be available through CD BABY, on iTUNES, and all major digital download destinations.
