George Richey Passes Away

Songwriter/producer GEORGE RICHEY, who was the longtime husband of Country legend TAMMY WYNETTE, passed away on JULY 31st at the age of 74 after a battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. RICHEY did not have a public memorial or any publicity of his death, as his request. He was buried in NASHVILLE near the grave of WYNETTE.
RICHEY co-wrote Country songs that were recorded by artists like WYNETTE and GEORGE JONES. He produced material for WYNETTE, MERLE HAGGARD, JOHNNY HORTON, WANDA JACKSON and more. As a session musician, GEORGE aided recordings by RINGO STARR, MARY ROBBINS and LEFTY FRIZZELL.
RICHEY managed WYNETTE throughout much of the 1980s. The couple was married until her death in 1998. In 2001, he married the SHEILA SLAUGHTER. RICHEY is survived by his wife SHEILA, by daughters TATUM and DEIRDRE and son, KELLY.
