Contest Violation Draws Proposed FCC Fine For WWEG

The FCC has proposed a $4,000 fine against NASSAU BROADCASTING III, LLC for contest rules violations at Classic Hits WWEG (106.9 THE EAGLE)/MYERSVILLE-HAGERSTOWN, MD.
WWEG ran a FATHER'S DAY contest in 2008 that the station's rules said was open until JUNE 13th but a listener who attempted to enter the contest on that day was told a winner had been picked on JUNE 12th and already announced on the 13th. The Commission agreed with NASSAU's contention that its rules clearly stated that the winner would be chosen on JUNE 13th (with no time specified) but noted that the station actually picked the winner the day before, which is not "substantially" as advertised.
