GLENN BECK's "Restoring Honor" rally at the LINCOLN MEMORIAL SATURDAY (8/28) drew a large crowd to the MALL in WASHINGTON to hear BECK, former ALASKA Governor SARAH PALIN, Rev. Dr. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.'s niece ALVEDA KING, and other speakers deliver speeches on patriotism and values. The crowd was estimated from the tens of thousands to "between 300,000 and 500,000," according to BECK, who joked that he had "just gotten word from the media that there are over a thousand people here today."
Nearby, another talk host, Rev. AL SHARPTON, held his own rally on SATURDAY, commemorating Dr. KING's "I Have A Dream" speech at the LINCOLN MEMORIAL 47 years earlier. The smaller event included a march from DUNBAR HIGH SCHOOL to the MALL, and speeches by Education Secretary ARNE DUNCAN and several others.
Columnist Calculates Pundit 'Accuracy'
Meanwhile, AOL DAILY FINANCE's JEFF BERCOVICI compiled "Truth-O-Meter" statistics from the ST, PETERSBURG TIMES' POLITIFACT website to determine which political pundits tell the truth more than others, and BECK's ranking on that scale was low. Columnist and commentator GEORGE WILL ranked the highest on the scale at 72.7% accuracy, with BECK's fellow PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS and FOX NEWS CHANNEL host SEAN HANNITY close behind at 72%. Pointing out that his methodology and sample size might result in "questionable" accuracy, BERCOVICI ranked CNN's DONNA BRAZILE and the NEW YORK TIMES' PAUL KRUGMAN next in a tie at 64%, with MSNBC's KEITH OLBERMANN and RACHEL MADDOW next at 54.3%. BECK was at 38.8%, FOX NEWS CHANNEL's BILL O'REILLY came in at 32%, and PREMIERE's RUSH LIMBAUGH was last at 31.7%.
