LINCOLN FINANCIAL MEDIA is buying the assets of BIG LEAGUE BROADCASTING, which has programmed the Sports format on LINCOLN's WQXI-A (790 THE ZONE)/ATLANTA since 1997. No price was disclosed for the purchase from BIG LEAGUE founders ANDREW SALTZMAN and STEPHEN "STEAK" SHAPIRO. SALTZMAN will become VP/GM of the station, reporting to sister Top 40 WSTR (STAR 94) VP/GM RICK MACK, who is being upped to SVP/GM of the cluster. SHAPIRO, who also serves as morning co-host, will be Station Brand Manager, and NEIL MAZIAR will serve as Station Manager.
"The addition of 790 THE ZONE strengthens our ATLANTA operations, and RICK is the perfect person to lead this new unified effort for us," said LFM President/CEO DON BENSON. "We're big believers in sports radio, with the success of our other properties in DENVER and MIAMI. THE ZONE's veteran management team and roster of talented employees will give us an even stronger presence in the format."
"We've had a 50-yard line seat watching the growth of 790 THE ZONE over the years," said MACK. "It's certainly more than just a sports radio station - it's a strong marketing company that has become a remarkable story. And it makes a perfect fit with our strength here in ATLANTA."
"We have accomplished a great deal as entrepreneurial broadcasters, and this acquisition allows 790 THE ZONE to compete at an even higher level," said SALTZMAN. "I am pleased with the development of this strategic partnership."
"It has been an incredible experience building BIG LEAGUE BROADCASTING and 790 THE ZONE from scratch, and it's equally satisfying now to be part of one of the great radio companies in AMERICA," said SHAPIRO. "BIG LEAGUE and LFM has always made a ton of sense, and I'm thrilled to see it come to fruition."
